People often ask me this:
“How on earth do you find the time to write a book?”
I get it. From the outside, the idea of writing a full novel sounds like something that needs long, luxurious hours — maybe even weeks of peace and quiet. But the reality for me is far from it.
Here’s what life actually looks like, and how I’ve managed to make room for writing in the middle of it all.
💼 My "Day Job": Not Just a Caretaker
By day, I work as a Site Manager at a Primary School.
While some people might imagine that means just unlocking doors and polishing floors, the truth is it’s a compliance-heavy role with responsibilities like:
-
Risk assessments and safety checks
-
Organising servicing and repairs
-
Managing permits to work
-
Overseeing a team (cleaners, housekeeper, assistant)
-
Staying on top of a lot of paperwork
It’s fast-paced and mentally demanding — and it doesn’t leave a ton of spare energy lying around.

🏑 Coaching, Family, and a Very Big Dog
Outside of work? Still busy!
-
I coach Level 2 Rink Hockey (roller hockey) three nights a week and many weekends.
-
I’m a husband, father, and grandad — with another grandchild on the way!
-
And of course, there’s Bear, our American Akita, who has no problem reminding me he’s part of the schedule too.

✍️ So... When Do I Actually Write?
Good question! Here’s how I make it happen:
🕐 1. Aim Small, Aim Daily
I try to get in one hour of writing and one hour of reading a day. That might not sound like much — but it adds up.
✏️ 2. Progress Over Perfection
Some days it’s a page, some days just a paragraph. And that’s okay. Momentum matters more than perfection.
📱 3. Use the Gaps
I walk to hockey practice (about 20 minutes), and I often read on my phone as I go. That’s nearly an hour of bonus reading time every week.
📚 4. Redefine “Writing”
Right now, my “writing time” includes editing Book 2, drafting blog posts, and prepping social media. It all contributes to the author journey.
🤝 Connecting with Readers
I love sharing this journey, not just through books but through blogs and social media.
Whether it’s a post about editing stress, the writing process, or a behind-the-scenes look at life — I’m always glad to connect.
If you enjoy these updates, come say hello on Instagram, Facebook, X, or Bluesky. You might even catch a Bear pic or two!
🧠 Takeaway
If you’ve ever thought, “I don’t have time to write” — I hear you.
But I hope this shows that it’s possible to create even during chaos. Whether your dream is writing, painting, composing, or building something brand new, consistency is key. Start small. Show up when you can. And don’t discount the value of slow, steady progress.
You’ve got this.
